RESEARCHER DISCUSSES NEW GENETIC VACCINE AGAINST WEST NILE VIRUS DURING INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT K-STATE
MANHATTAN -- During a presentation at an international conference at Kansas State University, researcher Konstantin Kousoulas discussed promising results of tests on a West Nile virus vaccine.
Kousoulas, from Louisiana State University, shared test results that suggest that Vesicular stomatitis virus-vectored vaccines, when administered intranasally, can prompt immune responses against West Nile virus infections. He was one of nearly 150 researchers who came from across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East to K-State for the Emerging Infections Symposium: A Tribute to the One Medicine, One Health Concept.
The symposium's major sponsors included the Kansas Bioscience Authority and the Heartland BioAgro Consortium, which is leading an effort to bring a federal institute for animal health to Kansas. K-State is among the finalists for relocation of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility.
K-State is a recognized leader in animal health and food safety, with more than 150 faculty and staff active in the food safety and animal health arenas. Since 1999, K-State has dedicated more than $70 million on related research.
