POINSETTIA VARIETIES GROWN BY K-STATE AVAILABLE DEC. 3-6
MANHATTAN -- The Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens and students in K-State's greenhouse operations management class will have a poinsettia open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, showcasing 58 varieties of student-grown poinsettias.
The holiday open house will be in the K-State Gardens Visitor's Center, 1500 Denison Ave., and at the Throckmorton Hall Greenhouse Range.
Festivities include a consumer preferences survey, for which participants will receive a 5-inch Purple Plum poinsettia while supplies last, as well as a poinsettia tree and apple cider.
The Friends of the K-State Gardens are selling the plants to cover costs of production and to benefit the gardens.
Poinsettias also will be sold after the open house until 6 p.m.; from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5; and from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 6. Prices are $10 for 6.5-inch pots, with a "buy five, get one free special." Many rare and unusual colors are available.
