WESTERN MUSIC GROUP RIDERS IN THE SKY COMING TO K-STATE'S MCCAIN AUDITORIUM
MANHATTAN -- Riders in the Sky the two-time Grammy Award winners, will perform a comedy and western show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium as part of the 2008-09 McCain Performance Series.
The classic cowboy quartet has been entertaining audiences for 30 years and has been compared to legends such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.
Although Riders in the Sky was formed 30 years ago, the group still has all of its original members: Ranger Doug on the guitar; Too Slim, bass; Woody Paul, vocals and the fiddle; and Joey, accordion. Since forming, group members have made more than 5,400 concert appearances in all 50 states and 10 different countries.
Riders in the Sky won its first Grammy Award in 2001 for the album "Woody's Round Up," named after the song featured in the Disney-Pixar film "Toy Story 2." In 2003, the group roped in its second Grammy for "Monsters Inc. -- Scream Factory Favorites," in conjunction with another one of Pixar's award-winning movies.
In addition to being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, Riders in the Sky is also in the Western Music Association's Hall of Fame, and the Country Music Foundation's Walkway of Stars. The group has been named the Western Music Association's "Entertainer of the Year" seven times. The Academy of Western Artists has named them "Western Music Group of the Year" twice in five years.
Tickets for the show start at $8 for children and K-State students, and $16 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty, seniors and military are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. More information also is available at:
