Chair, Board of Directors: Laurie Stenberg Nichols, Ph.D., Dean and Professor, College of Family and Consumer Sciences. 2006-07 ACE FELLOW

Dr. Laurie Stenberg Nichols is a native of South Dakota and received her B.S. in Home Economics Education from South Dakota State University . Advanced degrees include an M.S. in Vocational and Adult Education from Colorado State University and Ph.D. in Family & Consumer Sciences Education/Family Studies from Ohio State University .

Dr. Nichols has taught at the secondary and post-secondary levels in South Dakota , Colorado , Nebraska , Ohio , Idaho and Iowa . She has received numerous teaching and research awards for her innovative teaching including her involvement in the creation of the Great Plains IDEA (interactive distance education alliance). In 1994 she became Dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at South Dakota State University . Dr. Nichols has provided campus leadership on several initiatives including campus childcare, diversity, academic advising, and strategic planning. She has secured numerous grants to collaborate with South Dakota tribal colleges in the areas of curriculum development, articulation, service learning, and collaborative research.

Dr. Nichols is Chair of the Higher Education Unit of American Association for Family & Consumer Sciences, Chair of the Great Plain’s IDEA Board of Directors and Chair of South Dakota Voices for Children Board of Directors. She is past Vice President of Programs for the Board on Human Sciences. In addition, Dr. Nichols holds appointments to several local and state Boards which focus on the well-being of women and children. She is passionate about working with young people in solidifying educational and career goals and developing leadership skills.

Dr. Nichols is an ACE FELLOW, class of 2006-2007. She is spending fall semester, 2006 on the campus of California State University at Fresno under the mentorship of President John Welty and Provost Jeri Echeverria. Jean Lehmann , Ph.D., Associate Dean of Research, College of Applied Human Sciences and Professor, School of Education

Dr. Lehmann holds a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt, a Master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from the University of Wisconsin- Stout, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Her research interests are in the areas of assessment, transition, and educational reform. She has been the principal investigator on 26 state and federally funded research, evaluation, and training projects addressing issues of self determination, transition-related educator preparation, and models for increasing the post secondary success of students with disabilities. Virginia Moxley, Ph.D., Interim Dean, College of Human Ecology.

Dr. Moxley has held the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Human Ecology, Kansas State University since 1985. An advocate for quality distance education programming, she is a founding member of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance. Moxley chairs the academic committee of the Board on Human Sciences of the National Association of State Universities and Land grant Colleges and represents the Human Sciences on the Food and Agriculture Education Information System Panel of Experts. Linda O. Stanford, Ph.D., Associate Provost for Academic Services .

Marjorie Sable, MSW, MPH, DrPH. Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Dr. Sable holds degrees in Social Work (MSW, Washington University) and Public Health (MPH, DrPH, University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill). Her interest in public health grew out of her work as a social worker in women's health. Prior to joining the faculty in the School of Social Work in 1993, she was the Bureau Chief for Perinatal and Child Health at the Missouri Department of Health. At the School of Social Work she served as the director of doctoral studies and was the core Social Work faculty on a HRSA/MCHB Interdisciplinary Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) training grant. She teaches policy and practice, and her research focuses on maternal and child health issues including barriers to health care utilization, improved pregnancy outcomes, family planning, and domestic violence. Marjorie J. Kostelnik, Ph.D., Dean, College of Education and Human Sciences.

Dr. Kostelnik began her career in childcare and Head Start before receiving her doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies from the Pennsylvania State University. She was on the faculty at Michigan State for 22 years, serving first as Program Supervisor of the Child Development Laboratories and then as chair of the Department of Family and Child Ecology. During that time, she taught a variety of distance education classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Kostelnik's research focuses on early childhood education and community coalition building. Greg Sanders, Ph.D., Associate Dean, College of Human Development and Education.

Dr. Sanders provides leadership in building capacities in technology and research. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses with a focus on family science and researches in the areas of family relationships and later life families. Shiretta Ownbey, Ph.D., Associate Dean, College of Human Environmental Sciences.

Dr. Ownbey was a County Extension Educator, Extension 4-H and Youth Specialist, and Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in the public school system in Texas before becoming a faculty member in the Design, Housing and Merchandising Department at Oklahoma State University in 1991. Her research interests focus on Experiential Learning, Consumer Behavior of Special Markets, and Retail Training Issues. David C. Ivey, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development and Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy, College of Human Sciences.
Dr. Ivey serves as a Commissioner with the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education and is Chair of the Research Committee for the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He currently co-directs the Medical Family Therapy program housed in Children’s Hospital at Covenant Health System in Lubbock, Texas. His research interests include medical family therapy with pediatric oncology cases, clinical judgment in marriage and family therapy, pre-marital education, and forensic family therapy. His research has been funded by the Texas Office of the Attorney General, the Graduate School at Texas Tech University, The Big 12 Faculty Fellowship initiative, The Covenant Foundation, and the College of Human Sciences.
