FRIENDS OF GREAT PLAINS IDEA ANNOUNCED. The second annual Friend of the Great Plains IDEA awards were awarded April 8, 2008 at the Board of Directors Annual Meeting. This award honors individuals who have provided a significant contribution to the development and/or operation of the Great Plains IDEA. The individual(s) may have strengthened any facet of the organization. Some examples include development of new procedures, a new system for tracking information, extraordinary program leadership, etc. Award recipients include David Hilderbrand, Bruce McLeod and Ruth Williams. more...

Rochelle Dalla, University of Nebraska (CYAF), has been awarded the Distinguished Publication Award by the Association for Women in Psychology for her article, "You can't hustle all your life: An exploratory investigation of the exit process among street level prostitute women" published in the Psychology of Women Quarterly.
The award was to recognize her significant and substantial contributions of research and theory that advance the understanding of the psychology of women. She has been invited to speak at next year's conference in San Diego.
Sheri Smith, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning, and Great Plains IDEA Community Development faculty at Kansas State University, was awarded the McElwee Faculty Teaching Award for outstanding teaching at May 2007 commencement.
Rochelle Dalla, Ph.D. was the
2007 recipient of the Donald and Mary Lee Swanson Award for Teaching
Excellence. This award is given annually to a faculty member in the
College of Education and Human Sciences at University of Nebraska-Lincoln
in honor of teaching excellence. Dr. Dalla teaches in the Great Plains IDEA Youth Development program. Dr. Richard Bischoff, also a Youth
Development faculty member, won this award in 2006.
Kansas State University has appointed Sue C. Maes, Ph.D., an expert on building new academic programs and fostering institutional collaboration, to be interim dean of the Division of Continuing Education.
John Grable, Ph.D. was honored with the International Association of Registered Financial
Consultants Founder's Award. This award is for individuals who have made
a significant impact in the field of financial consulting.
Dr. Grable teaches in the Family Financial Planning program and is a faculty member at Kansas State University.
Community Development wins 2008 INNOVATION PROGRAM AWARD from the Community Development Society for the development of the Community Development On-line Master's Program. This award is presented to a Community Development Society member or a group in
recognition of a superior innovative program using the principles of
good practice as adopted by the Society.
The The North Central Regional Center for Rural
Developmentand the online Great Plains IDEA Community Development program have been awarded the Iowa Distance Learning Association's 2008 Points of Presence award. This award is to be given to individuals or organizations for specific,
outstanding distance education programs and initiatives serving
learners within (but not limited to) Iowa. POP Awards celebrate
excellence in program design and implementation, and its impact on
learners and their community.
The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards
Inc. (CFP Board) has renewed registration of the financial planning
curriculum offered by the Great Plains IDEA Masters Degree and Certificate
Programs. The registration is in effect for the seven participating
institutions including, Iowa State, Kansas State, Montana State,
University of Nebraska, North Dakota State, Oklahoma State, and
South Dakota State Universities. The registration period is for
five years ending May 31, 2011 and is contingent upon compliance
with annual renewals, as requested and continued compliance with
requirements for CFP Board registration.
The renewed registration means
that students who successfully complete either of the registered
programs will have met the education requirement for the CFP®
certification. In addition to this requirement, passing the CFP®
Certification Examination plus fulfilling experience and ethics
requirements can lead to certification by the CFP Board, granting
the individual the right to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL
PLANNER™ and CFP (with flame logo)® certification marks.
