Christine C. Cook, Associate Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, Iowa State University, focuses on the role that the environment plays in enhancing or inhibiting the lives of elderly individuals. She teaches graduate and undergraduate course in this area, has participated in the development of the Environments and Aging course, and will offer the course in the future. Her teaching and research activities focus on the impact of housing and neighborhood on quality of life. Topics of particular concern in her work include housing quality and affordability; community vitality; neighborhood and housing satisfaction; family and housing policy; and the special needs of women, children and the aging. She is a member of the ISU Gerontology Program and is coordinator of the graduate program. Currently Dr. Cook is advisor to a gerontology research assistant who is examining data from two studies, Life in Iowa and Local Housing Decisions and Community Vitality. Together, along with Prof. Crull [HDFS] they are investigating family, community, and housing resources available to aging adults. These research efforts will help families, service providers, housing professionals, and policy makers plan for current and future needs among the aging. Dr. Cook has published research in Environment and Behavior; Journal of Family and Economic Issues; and the Journal of Family Issues. more

Her research focuses on aging-environment issues and aging in rural communities. Jean Pearson Scott, Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, Texas Tech University, received her doctoral degree in Family Relations with a specialization in gerontology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1979. Her research activities in family gerontology have resulted in published research related to coping strategies of caregivers, hospice volunteers, parent -adult child relationships, older women's issues, sibling relationships, widowhood, and quality of life of older rural adults.
