Course Description
This course introduces students to the relevance and need for incorporating reading and developing reading skills in middle and high school classrooms. Students in this course learn how to use a variety of materials in the classroom, including textbooks, literature, Internet resources, and media, to help secondary students, grades 8-12, learn family and consumer sciences information.

Approximately two weeks before the first day of class at Texas Tech University, the TTU campus coordinator, Ashlee Murden, will email instructions to each student enrolled in the courses taught by Texas Tech. This e-mail will contain information regarding the setup of their eRaider access through the campus IT Help Central department. If assistance is needed regarding setup of their eRaider access, IT Help Central can be contacted at 806-742-4357 (HELP) or toll-free at 877-484-3573 or ithelpcentral@ttu.edu. Students will need to identify themselves as a GPIDEA/AGIDEA student to IT Help personnel for proper guidance. The e-mail will also include information about accessing the Texas Tech Blackboard system for their courses. Courses will be available on the first day of class, but may not be available prior to that date.

Janice Santiago is a graduate student in the family and community services program.I was looking for the education I needed to take the next step in my career to a program director or executive director.  I spent a lot of time searching for a university and degree that matched my education in community organizing and advocacy and aligned with my interest in families and community services and supports.  Finding GP IDEA and reading about the courses and career tracks of those who earned the MA in Family & Community Services, I knew right away that this was the degree and program for me.
