Jay Trenhaile is a professor and department head of the Department of Counseling and Human Development at South Dakota State University. He has provided leadership as a department head at SDSU since 2002. During that time the department has expanded to include the undergraduate major in human development and family studies. In 2007, Trenhaile led the department through the addition of a new specialization in rehabilitation counseling, a program that was subsequently nationally accredited in 2009. Research activities for Trenhaile focus on his interest in the areas of solution-focused brief therapy, children and adolescents, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
