John Dole specializes in floricultural crops research and teaches floriculture courses including Greenhouse Management and Production of Floriculture Crops for North Carolina State University. In addition, he serves as executive advisor for the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers and co-authored "Floriculture Principles and Species," 2nd edition, 2005, with Harold F. Wilkins.
He researches crop management and new crop species development of cut flowers, which includes new cultivar evaluation, production studies, postharvest experiments, and marketing analysis. His research on crop management and new crop species development of bedding and potted plants includes providing production protocols for several new special and postharvest handling of unrooted and rooted cuttings. He also researches the development of cost accounting techniques and tools for floriculture crop producers.
