Kinchel Doerner became the dean of the Graduate School at South Dakota State University in July 2012. Prior to assuming his current position he served as interim dean of Graduate Studies and Research at Western Kentucky University for 2011-2012 where he was also served as a faculty member in the Department of Biology from 1996-2012.
Doerner received his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992 in Animal Sciences studying anaerobic microbiota of the gastro-intestinal tract after which he completed a post-doctoral post at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. He has published numerous manuscripts and currently serves on multiple committees of the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools and on the cabinet of the Great Plain Interactive Distance Alliance.
